Workshop Description
Chronic exposure to client trauma places clinicians at increased risk for burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma, all of which can impair ethical decision-making and clinical effectiveness. This workshop examines the ethical responsibility of counselors to monitor impairment and engage in proactive self-care. Participants will explore the physiological and psychological impact of trauma work and identify ethical self-care strategies that support professional longevity, competence, and client safety. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to: Identify signs of burnout and vicarious trauma that may impact ethical practice. Apply ethical self-monitoring strategies to reduce professional impairment. Integrate sustainable self-care practices into ongoing professional functioning. 3 CEs June 18th, 2026 Presenter: Dr. Sherie Hawkins PhD, LPC, NCC, CPCS Sherie Hawkins is the Founder and Program Director of MindPath Innovations and someone who firmly believes that continuing education should be smart, meaningful, and yes, actually enjoyable. With a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision and years of experience as a licensed professional counselor, educator, supervisor, and trainer, Sherie brings both clinical depth and real-world wisdom to every learning experience she designs. Her work lives at the intersection of trauma-informed care, ethics, supervision, and professional development—and she is deeply committed to helping clinicians feel more confident, competent, and grounded in their work. In her own clinical practice, Sherie is a Certified EMDR practitioner and conducts EMDR Intensive experiences for clients. She is progressive in her approach to treatment and is currently launching a medication-assisted trauma release experience.
