Workshop Description
Trauma often disrupts a client’s sense of meaning, identity, and personal values. This workshop explores ethically appropriate ways to support meaning-making and identity integration in trauma recovery without imposing counselor beliefs or values. Participants will examine clinical strategies for facilitating values-consistent healing while maintaining ethical neutrality and cultural sensitivity. Emphasis is placed on supporting client autonomy, identity exploration, and resilience within trauma-informed treatment. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to: Identify ethical considerations when addressing meaning, values, and identity in trauma treatment. Apply counseling strategies that support client-driven meaning-making. Maintain ethical neutrality while facilitating identity integration in trauma recovery. Presenter: Sherie Hawkins, Ph. D., LPC, NCC, CPCS Dr. Sherie Hawkins has a passion for helping people heal from the effects of traumatic experiences. She does this through her direct work with clients primarily utilizing EMDR therapy (www.emdria.org), through her supervision of Licensed Associates and Interns who are serving clients at her practice, Hope Springs Mind, Body, Spirit (www.hopespringscounseling.org) , and through her instruction and supervision of graduate students where she teaches at Adams State University and Liberty University. Sherie graduated from the University of Georgia in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Georgia State University in 1998 with a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, and Regent University in 2014 with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor, a Certified EMDR Practitioner, and a Certified Forest Therapy Guide. Sherie founded Hope Springs Mind, Body, Spirit as a private practice mental health counseling center that also serves to provide complimentary helping professional services to their clients in order to create opportunity for more “whole person” healing.
